You may have seen some “Breaking News!” about Google hiring people or some type of job working for Google. One of the “claims” I read today said, “I get paid $25.00 for every link I create”.

Okay, first off, COME ON People! There are many different tactics to get people to look hard enough to click on a link to do more investigating into the claim. THIS claim has one purpose – to get you to buy a product. That product teaches you how to create awebsite or blog that you can sell advertising spots on.

This is the “PAID” by Google project. You are not getting paid to work for Google. You can earn money by doing what Google does -  Selling Ads like the Google Adwords ads. It’s called may different things and there are several different ways that people use to try and coerce you into buying their program, but the fact is, this has nothing to do with working at home directly for Google.

You can make money with blogs and your website by adding Adsense ads on it. You can also sell little ads on your site or blog. What some people do is they drive traffic to their websites/blogs from other sources, then they themselves sell advertising space on their websites. It’s not a complex way to generate income, but it is a way that is very misleading to the buyers of these programs that are making money by using Googles name.

So, buyer beware. Don’t fall for the “Breaking News” and all those little images that look like they came from CNN or AOL or Google. This is a very smart way of making you believe it’s some type of official site but it’s not.

If you want to make money by selling advertising space on your website or blog, you need to do a few simple things.

1. Drive lots of traffic to it.

2. Select a niche that people will want to advertise on. Okay, this is sort of the first things you need to do.

It’s hard work to make money online. It’s possible, but it does take some study and it does take trial and error.

The questions that are most often asked are, “How do I get backlinks” and “Should I or where can I buy backlinks?”.

Let’s first consider how to get backlinks. A backlink is a link that points to any page on your site. These can be internal or external backlinks. They are more valuable then links that are exchanged.

How to Get Backlinks for FREE to Your Site

1. Write articles and submit them to article directories or directly to website/blog owners.

2. Create and submit videos adding your URL in the description of the video.

3. Write articles and create Web 2.0 pages that contain anchor texts with URL’s leading back to your site. Squidoo and Hugpages are excellent places to start.

4. Join social networks and add your URL to your profile or public favorite sites.

5. Bookmark your URL’s in social bookmarking sites.

6. Join forums and add your URL to your signature file.

7. Offer quality comments to blogs that offer do-follow links in exchange for your quality comments.

8. Join networks like Myspace and Facebook where you can add your URL for public exposure.

9. Join Twitter and as long as you are not twittering just for the purposed of ,spamming URL’s you can announce new pages within your websites. The key is to offer up 4 or 5 twitters of quality comments per every 1 announcement twitter.

Should I Buy Backlinks?

There are several ways to buy backlinks to your site. Advertising your site on other websites or blogs is an acceptable way of obtaining backlinks. Google offers pay per click advertising that includes a link to your website. This is not the type of link that adds value to your site, but it is acceptable.

Locating websites that are highly relavant to your niche website/blog is one way to buy a backlink. This would be one way that I would feel comfortable recommending. As long as you reap good quality traffic from your purchase, it is an acceptable way to achieve backlinks.

If you are going to buy backlinks to your site, you have to ask yourself the question, “What happens to my links once I quit paying?”

There are companies that charge a monthly fee for “x” amount of backlinks to your site. Once you stop paying all of your links are removed. This is the same as holding your site hostage. Why? Because you know that once you stop paying all of those links disappear.

The reason why people go for this type of service is the idea that they will gain a first page position in Google rather quickly for a very small fee. One site charges $20.00 a month for 1000 backlinks. However, those links disappear the instant you no longer pay your monthly fee.

Personally this feels like blackmail and black hat SEO. Your money is better spent building links that will stick . Every dollar spent is spent wisely.

What is the KEY to Successfully making money online? I tell you at the end of this post. It is the best kept secret of the wealthy guru’s of Internet profits. Try not to skip to the end.

Because of our poor economy many more people are seeking ways to make money at home online.  Today I thought I’d go over a list of things you can do to make money online. I’d also like to point out that although making money at home may appear to be a fantastic opportunity, it is not for everyone and most people fail.

Why do most people fail to profit from their efforts online? Because they do not realize it’s not easy, it’s not simple, and it’s not free.

Before I go deeper into the subject, let’s just consider what it takes to make money online from the perspective of what type of person you will need to be.

4. Money. While it is true that you can invest very little money to make money online, it is not easy to do. The almost free route will cost you a full time commitment of your time. Plus, if you don’t really know a lot about websites, blogs, hosting, affiliate programs and so forth, you will have to pay to learn what you don’t know. This costs money.

5. You will have to pick a program and master that program before moving on to the next program or “making money” thing.

If you can handle the above, then you’re ready to move forward. Let’s talk about what you can do to make money from the Internet.

A. Google Adsense. This is VERY difficult to master. The fact is you have to work very hard to build websites that will earn a lot of money with Adsense. Of course there are lots of people who sell ebooks on how to make money with Adsense fast and easy. However, they are leaving out the one thing that you will need for it to be “easy”. Money.

I’ll talk more about Adsense in another post. Let’s move on…

B. Affiliate programs. You can make money selling other peoples products. This is really one of the best ways to make money online because you don’t need to provide any type of customer service. All you have to do is promote someone elses product. This is not easy, but it is less involved then trying to sell your own product.

Where do you find affiliate programs to promote? Clickbank is probably the easiest place for this.

C. Sell your own product. This is really a pain. Too much to go into, but I have done this successfully and I can tell you it is a pain unless you have the money to pay other people to do the work for you.

How do you sell your products. Whew! Too much to cover here but if it’s digital, you can sell it on Clickbank.

D. Providing a service. This is time consuming of course, but if you are willing to do things like write articles, submit articles, post comments and a vast array of other types of chores, you can also make money online. People with websites and blogs need people who can build websites and blogs or create graphics and do other types of things associated with design skills.

Elance.com, Scriptlance.com, Getafreelancer.com and Rentacoder.com are places you can look to find people looking for jobs you’re willing to do.

You can also post your online skills and services on craigslist.

You may be wondering what I recommend. What I recommend is that you do NOT buy everything that screams – make money online easy as eating pie!

I recommend learning how to promote affiliate programs. The easiest way is to set up a blog. WordPress blogs are highly favored by Google and with WordPress you can add a lot of excellent addon widgets that will help make things a lot easier for you.

Lastly, I highly recommend you spend your time where it counts the most. Then outsource the rest. This is honestly the MISSING LINK, the BIG SECRET that people who earn huge profits never really talk about.

The Internet Guru’s out there do not tell you this HUGE secret of making money online. That secret is outsourcing. I personally hire people to do a variety of chores for me. • Talk to your children’s teachers and find out how they access the Internet at school and the library. Ask who monitors their activity and if it is not possible to monitor them properly at school, you may want to prevent your child from accessing the Internet without adult supervision.
• Help your children understand that it is NEVER their fault should something bad happend to them online. It is important that they understand THEY are the victim and they will not be punished should they confess anything that they feel was wrong or improper, no matter who started the conversations or activity.
