How to Increase Your Optin Rate – Tiny Tip HUGE Results!

My Broadcasting Headache…

Increasing Your Open RateUp until about a week ago things were running quite smoothly regarding my list delivery process. My subscribers seemed to be happy as I was getting a nice above average “open” rate from each of the broadcast messages I sent out.

Suddenly things changed. My open rate droped about 65% overnight!

I scrambled to figure things out. I emailed Aweber… “What the heck” ???

I spoke to some friends, “WHAT THE HECK”!!!

Then today, one of my good buddies online sent me a screen shot of my broadcast. It was in his spambox.

NOW I understood!

Increase Your Open RatesThe problem is that when you use “Yahoo” or “Gmail” as your “From” email address, you trigger the SPAM collector. Away goes your email from their Inbox to their Spambox.

Ah well… live and learn… and learn… and keep on learning….

With the speed of the Internet and technology, you simply have to keep up with the changes. No way around it.

Hope this has helped some of you who may have wondered why you get such low open rates. Or like me, why they may have dropped over night.

    Hi Pamela,

Yes, it’s best to use a .com email instead of any free email such as yahoo, gmail, or hotmail etc…

I have also heard that an aged domain does better than a new one. But I can’t say if that is true or not as i’ve got older domains that I am using and when there is a .99 cent .com sale I buy some, put a little wordpress blog up and let them age until I need them.

Thank you for your comments as well. :) Happy to help and give back as I have been through bad times myself. Lived in a 500 square foot rented house for about 5/6 years before buying our nice little 1000 square foot home, which believe me, feels like a mansion after moving from that tiny place. We do have a nice sized backyard of which our dog thinks is silly because she doesn’t seem to want to do much more than relieve herself out there.

I take her for about an hour walk along a nice river trail out in the woods so I guess she doesn’t feel the need to roam in the yard. ;)

Is this still the case and do you know if Hotmail.com accounts are treated the same. I have just discovered your site through reading about you on WF- you are an inspiration!

Had you always used a Gmail/Yahoo email in the ‘From’ box? If so, then I’m wondering if the spam thing was a fairly recent aspect Gmail/Yahoo implemented? And if that’s the case, then I would have thought it would be something they’d send an update about, no?

  • Hi Chrisi,
This is an eye opener for some of us. Thank you, Chrisi.

I recieved one of your very first emails in my spam folder. I added your email to my address book, so they now come straight to my inbox, but I still check my spam folder, just incase one slips through.lol.
You provide great content and I always look forward to reading your emails, theres something new everytime, thanks Chrisi.
