Life Without the Internet

Time to PanicSo, you wake up, you make your coffee, and then sit in your favorite lazy-boy chair to begin your day.

Then it happens…

Your computer just doesn’t seem to understand “connect”.

When you have customers expecting their downloads, clients wanting their digital-paper work filled out, and a variety of other tasks just waiting for you to manage, losing your Internet connect is rather.. UPSETTING!

I actually do have a back up PC, but it’s old, breaths really heavy when I tell it to multitask, and I’m sure it’s about ready to blow some type of memory board gasket any day now.

What do you do?

Ah well… you just head on over to BestBuy, slap down that 18 month interest free Visa and VIOLA! You’re back online and deeper in debt.

However, the good news is… it’s a business right off and my business is certainly going to pay for it over the next 7 months!

How about you? If you woke up one morning and found your PC wouldn’t connect, what sort of day would that be for you?

The Internet has become everything, most of the people around the world don’t even know what to do with their life without the internet, so i totally agree with your points here, Very Nice Post you make on Netwoozy, Chrisi, I love your viewpoint on Google too!!!

If I found my internet was down, I think it would make me realise just how dependent I can be on it to get some of my work done. I mean I’ve been in that situation before so I know what it feels like. In defiance of my dependence, I’d probably use it as an opportunity to chill for a few hours. If the net still wasn’t up by then, I’d seek alternative arrangements.

I do a significant amount of my work online, so having the internet is essential to me being able to make a living. If my connection dropped, as you can imagine, I’d be none too pleased. Luckily I have family nearby, so I could jump on their net if it was like for a couple of hours. It’s bearable if it happens every now and then for short periods of time, but if it happened every week, I’d bill my supplier for lost earnings and switch suppliers. Dropped connections isn’t what I’m paying for.

I was in that position a couple years ago – not for one morning, but 6 months. At the time, I couldn’t afford to pay my phone/internet bill (it was a fairly large bill). I was making money online (freelance writing), but not enough to make ends meet. Eventually, my phone & net access got cut. Woke up one morning and, poof, it was gone.

I went mental, like the air had been sucked out of me. Felt sick and dizzy. Went to bed. Slept it off.

Next day, I found a 24hr net cafe offering a really good deal if you bought hours in bulk. I worked like a dog for months, hardly slept, but eventually got my connection back.

I do get intermittent drops in my internet connection, but I’m usually pretty calm about it, because it’s nothing compared to the 6 months of me not having it.

The first thing I do after getting up in the morning is to grab my laptop and check my mails. If at any day i found it would not connect, well, that would be a really awful day. I am not too much of a technical person, so its even more difficult for me.

Waking up without a internet connection is one of the must frustrating situations one can be in. It becomes all the more difficult in case you have deliverables to make. Life in present times revolves around internet and if you dont have it even for a couple of hours it makes you feel handicapped..

Hi Joy, no no… I HAD Internet… my laptop would not connect TO the Internet! And that is an excellent idea should I lose the actual Internet. I have a hotspot along with Charter for my ISP. And every now and then I have had to use my hotspot when Charter has been down.

    Good thinking, :)

I am a freelance writer and editor; to wake up without internet connection would be enough to ruin my entire day. However, being a naturally cheerful and positive person, I would normally just pack my laptop and head to the nearest coffee shop with wifi connection!

I completely agree that losing internet connection when one has lot of backlog lined up is close to a nightmare . I too have faced a few times and at that time praying to God is the only option I can resort to . And if at all the entire day goes without internet connection I can just wish that it is up and running tomorrow.

I have had that happen to me many times and I get happy just before I think about how much work there will be when I get back on. Then I bow my head and pray. Please help me today I pray. Help me to get through the work tomorrow if you see fit. If not then OK – just more work tomorrow. Right now I gotta drive.
